Tanis Fishman

Tanis’s yoga journey began ten years ago when she was competing at an elite level in alpine ski racing. She stumbled upon yoga and immediately was drawn to its impact on her body and life. She spent the next few years studying, traveling, and learning about the human body from a Western perspective. In the spring of 2002, after a chance meeting with a Swami from India, her life direction took a different turn and she knew it was time to learn more about the infinite world of yoga. After graduating from the University of Calgary in Kinesiology, she journeyed to India and reunited with the Swami at his Ashram in the state of Bihar. She lived and studied at the Bihar Yoga Bharati, a university and ashram, where she received a certificate in yogic studies and was initiated by the Guru into the Satyananda family of yoga. After a year of the intense yogic lifestyle she returned home and enrolled in the Ashtanga teacher training at Yoga Passage with Tracy Mann and Lerrita Rubinoff.

In October 2005 she returned to India and assisted Swami Muktidharma with a month-long yoga retreat. During the retreat she took the second initiation in the Satyananda family of yoga. Her travels then took me to Rishikesh where I studied a tantric form of yoga called Agama which concentrated on energy fields and the chakras.

In the summer of 2006, Tanis completed an advanced teacher training with Donna Farhi in Vancouver.

Currently, Tanis is teaching yoga (hatha, restorative, yoga nidra), meditation, teacher training, and intense inquiry into the yoga sutras.
