Dedicated to living in gratitude with an open heart, this journey so far has been about learning to bring love and wholeness, the essence of yoga, to life both on and off the mat. My awareness of a conscious spiritual path began when I was completing my degree in music therapy and suffering from the stresses of student life in the form of mysterious aches and illnesses. Quite quickly, I realized that yoga, breath and sound are essential tools in unlocking many of the questions and mysteries that exist within life, within myself.
Many flavours of hatha yoga have crossed my path so far: Ashtanga and Anusara and Iyengar yoga to name a few. Most recently, I completed a 500 hour teacher training in Rishikesh , India with yogi Vishveketu, in ‘Akunda’ and ‘Hatha Raj’ yoga styles. I have spent the last year and a half ‘on the road’ in and out of India , living, loving, learning and teaching there. Currently, I teach yoga classes wherever I happen to be (in Alberta and India mostly) and have facilitated 200 hour yoga teacher trainings with Himalaya Yoga Valley in India as well as Trinity Yoga in Canada .
I love teaching with sound, leading sound circles, kirtan and accessing the power of nada yoga, the yoga of mantra and sound which is a passion. As an accredited music therapist, I work with all kinds of people: children, elderly, people in mental health, individuals who are seeking healing etc…I am so grateful for the grace of the healing properties of vibration sound and the gifts of music, chanting, singing, dancing which can help us move to other levels of being. I am currently working on a mantra recording project with Chinmaya Dunster
The core of yoga is to connect with blissful wholeness through restful awareness. Teaching in a wholistic framework, classes incorporate challenging and dynamic flowing posture sequences as well as ample time for softness, relaxation, breath and meditation. I believe that at our core, we all know what is best for us. All we need is a little space, to take a breath and connect in order to tap into this infinite wisdom and awareness. As such, I encourage students to compassionately stretch their own boundaries and guide them to recognize for themselves where those boundaries lie. I am also a big fan of smiling, laughter and community and invite everyone to find the beauty and joy in each event, each minute, each posture, each breath. A good friend of mine often tells me “Its just life….smile and live!” I agree because its truly beautiful.
